Masters Education Program
Department of Music, National University of Tainan, NUTN.

In 2002 our department established classes for
a Masters Degree in Music Education.

A. The direction of its development:
  1. To meet the requirements for recent reforms in public school performing art education job requirements. And to provide qualified teachers who have the ability to expand music and performing art education.
  2. To nurture the teachers who will conduct planning and research in art and humanity classes.
  3. To emphasize the research of folk music materials and teaching in order to increase the quality of folk music education.
  4. To explore music education in the world and broaden the vision and quality of teaching in performing art education.
  5. To modernize techniques and information in performing art education through current research and technical information.
  6. To solidify the outreach and service aspects of music education and to expand the educational function of musical performing arts in society.
B. To concentrate on the development of performing art education and the need for qualified teachers, the classes for the masters degree program are set up in three groups of courses: 'Music education', 'Piano teaching' and 'Vocalist teaching'. Each group of courses requires thirty-two credit hours plus one Master degree thesis. Upon graduation students can continue their doctoral studies in music research in domestic or foreign universities. The students can also work as music teachers or researchers.
C. The faculty includes two professors, six associate professors and one assistant professor.
D. They share the same facilities with the Music Education Department.

 

 

Curriculum Configuration of Master Education Program

A. Principles and features of curriculum design :
  1. Upgrading the scholastic level and control the trend of development of music education.
  2. Raising the music special knowledge and skills.
  3. Covering the related scopes of national music education.
  4. Emphasizing the detailed researches and studies on teaching materials.
  5. Emphasizing both of the teaching theory and practice.
  6. Offcring spaces for integral application of art education and information technologies.
  7. Integration of curriculums.
B. Curriculum
At least total 32 credits to be earned , plus submission of one graduation thesis.
